According to the latest statement from Tata Motors, the world’s cheapest car Tata Nano is now available directly at showrooms without any bookings in select states. New customers in Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh who have not made any bookings so far can directly take deliveries of the models available at the showrooms.
"Customers will be able to take a closer look at and test drive the Tata Nano across all Tata Motors dealerships and special Nano access points," said Tata Motors in its official statement stating ‘open sales’ in four states of India. It already started open sales in Kerala during the festive season in August.
Tata Motors has tied up with 25 banks to offer loans for purchasing the Tata Nano at attractive rates of interest and more such arrangements are being put in place, it said in the statement. It also offers warranty of up to 18 months or 24,000 kms whichever occurs earlier.
Used car market dealers are sceptical about the impact on their business as they state that open sale of Tata Nano may significantly dent sales of used cars like Maruti Alto and Hyundai Santro. “The market for a used Maruti Alto and Hyundai Santro can be dented. Tatas will have to build a strategy to meet the sales volumes. One can expect discounts to attract customers,” said Ayaaz Fazulbhoy, director, Fazulbhoy Motors, a used-car dealer in Mumbai.
