Rolls-Royce forecasts sale of 450 units in Asia in 2010

UK-based luxury-car maker, Rolls-Royce, expects its Asia sales to triple to 450 units in 2010. The company is hoping that its relatively low-priced Rolls-Royce Ghost will help push up sales. Additionally, it feels that luxury cars will fare better this year in comparison to last year’s sales, given the improving economic scenario. In 2009, only 150 Rolls-Royce cars were sold in Asia. Brenda Pek, head of Rolls-Royce’s operations in South and East Asia Pacific, said that the company would introduce a whole new range of cars in the region this year.

Rolls-Royce is also aiming to increase its global sales to 2,500 units in 2010, more than double its 1,002 units’ sales in 2009. In 2008, the company’s total sales stood at 1,212 units, including 200 units in Asia.

The Ghost, priced at $250,000 excluding taxes and delivery costs, is much cheaper than the Rolls-Royce Phantom, priced at $450,000. In Asia, however, the former’s price may go up substantially because of taxes. Also, customers will have to pay extra for additional features like massage seats.
