Bangalore based Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) is gearing up to expand its consumer base by launching two new models within the next couple of years. These include a four-seater, two-door hatchback – known as the NXR, and a sporty two-seater – the NXG. RECC’s Deputy Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, Mr Chetan Maini, said that the first of these cars – the NXR, will be a safe, automatic, easy to drive car, which will be perfect as a family’s second car.
It will come with an optional solar panel on top. It will be launched in 24 countries in Asia and Europe in 2010. With a top speed of 104 km/hr, the NXR will be twice as fast as current Reva cars, and will be able to cover 160 km on one charge. The NXG, on the other hand, will be a fun car and will go into production in 2011. It will have a top speed of 130 km/hr and will cover up to 200 km per charge. Mr Maini said that the company is targeting a sales figure of 30,000 units in the next three years.
