Nissan launches new versions of X-Trail, Teana

Nissan India launched new versions of the X-Trail and the Nissan Teana in Mumbai last week. The new Teana comes with plush interiors, dual sunroofs and Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). It is powered by a 2.5 litre V6 engine and is priced between Rs 21.03 lakh and Rs 25.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The X-Trail is powered by a diesel engine and is priced between Rs 20.81 lakh and Rs 25.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Japan-based Nissan Motor Company is making all possible efforts to expand its presence in India, though its performance so far has been far from impressive. Nissan is Japan’s third largest auto maker, and India is currently on the top of its investment list. The company hopes that the new versions of its only two models available in India will help improve sales figures.

The X-Trail and the Teana are currently brought to India as Completely Built Units (CBUs) and attract a duty of 109 per cent. As part of its expansion plan in the country, Nissan will increase its product range to nine models by 2012, five of which will be manufactured in India. The first among these will be a hatchback based on the platform of the Nissan Micra. Manufacturing cars in India will help the company price its cars more competitively here and sell them in greater numbers.
