Nissan India to launch five new models

Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor is planning to expand its presence in India by launching five new models. Nissan, which was so far a niche car manufacturer, wants to now offer products for the mass-market in India. The new cars will include both the hatchback and sedan versions of the Nissan Micra. Nissan currently sells the Teana and the X-Trail in the country, and will be launching new versions of both the models next week. While the new Teana will get restyled interiors and exteriors, the car’s powertrain will remain unchanged. On the other hand, the X-Trail is expected to get a new engine, a new outer body and chassis. Company officials refused to divulge details about that cars’ pricing.

Nissan had been mulling over localising the production of the Teana over the past few months, but the car’s low sales have discouraged the company. At present, the Teana is priced at Rs 21.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) in India, including an import duty of 110 per cent.
