New Toyota Camry launched in India

Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota, last week launched a new version of its premium sedan, the Toyota Camry in India. The car is priced between Rs 21.26 lakh and Rs 23.40 lakh and is available in dark green mica metallic and beige mica metallic colours. It features a plasmacluster air-conditioner, intelligent rain sensing wipers and a moonroof.

Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), Mr Sandeep Singh, told media persons that the new Camry is not meant to be a 'volume product' and that the chief aim of the company is to showcase its technologies through the car. TKM is targeting sales of 500 units for the car this year, and is hoping to take on the new Skoda Superb with it.

Sales of the initially very successful Camry fell by 75 per cent in the April-June quarter, going down from 182 units an year ago to 44 units this year. Hiroshi Nakagawa, TKM's Managing Director, said that the new Camry will combine modern styling with luxurious features.
