Another small car from Hyundai. It has decided to go small again. This time it's the all new i10. This cheeky little car is all set to compete in the B segment against the likes of the Wagon R, Zen Estilo, GM Spark, Fiat Palio Stile 1.1, Tata Indica Xeta 1.2 and the company's very own Santro.
The space is getting crowded, there is no doubt about that, but still it is the largest selling segment in the Indian car industry (accounting for close to 80 percent of total passenger car sales in the country). This is really not a choice of making hay while the sun shines considering the spiraling prices of petrol and diesel. A small car has always made sense, and Indians are accustomed to the fact that a small car can also come with its own slice of prestige. Further to this, the i10 was launched first in India and then the rest of the world. What does this mean? Well, India has been pushing for that small car manufacturing hub title. The i10 works with those plans.
It's small alright, but surprisingly spacious on the inside. The design ques from the sleek raked back headlights and the not so tall boy stance really give this car a sportier look than its competition. Sticking with the norm of the segment, Hyundai has not gone overboard but has conformed to the monoform design formula. Keeping with the formula, the rear integrates neatly with the large Renault-esque rear lights. Visually, the i10 has the look and should not find too many haters.
On the inside, it is as spacious as a small car can be. The noticeable points are the location of the slick gearshift, which mimics the latest CR-V as well as the headrests integrated into the sporty looking seats. Judging by the overall quality of the interiors, it looks like the blokes out in Korea spent a lot of time on the inside to make sure everything fits just nice and snug!
Equipment wise, the i10 comes in a series of offerings. Most noticeable is the top of the line Magna that comes fitted with ABS, stereo; power everything and a sunroof (optional extra for a few thousand rupees more). Apart from the commercial featuring current heartthrob Shahrukh Khan, the ladies have another reason to cheer the i10. It comes with two vanity mirrors. Guys, sorry, that means no more cat fights, women, enjoy, but please refrain from using the driver side vanity while driving!
